Abia Governor gets state’s first Covid-19 Vaccination

Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu received the state’s first dose of the Oxford AstraZeneca Covid -19 vaccine. The Governor was vaccinated by his Personal Physician, Mike Enyinnaya at Government House, Umuahia.

After receiving the vaccine, Governor Ikpeazu encouraged all those within the age bracket recommended, to avail themselves of the opportunity of being vaccinated.

According to the Governor, the deployment of vaccine as a device to fight Covid-19, is a global decision endorsed by the World Health Organization and captured by the NCDC which is the lead agency in Nigeria that is battling the pandemic.

The Executive Secretary, Abia State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Chinagozie Adindu explained that those vaccinated will receive another jab two months later.

Adindu said there will be enough vaccines for health workers in the State’s public and private hospitals, members of the State Covid-19 Inter Ministerial Task Force, law enforcement agents and other frontline personnel.

He said the second batch of vaccines will target the vulnerable, those with underlining ailments and the elderly, adding that by the end of the year, 40 percent of the population in Abia State would have been vaccinated.
