Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia has condemned the attack by suspected armed herdsmen on Gyaruwa in Gwer-West Local Government Area that claimed the lives on 28 persons with some reportedly abducted.

In a statement by his Principal Special Assistant on Media and Content Creation, Isaac Uzaan, the Governor expressed concern that despite concerted efforts made by Government to end the attacks, they have continued.

Alia, who called on the people of the State, particularly those under constant attacks to cooperate with government and security agencies to bring perpetrators of the attacks to justice urged security agencies to expedite action that would lead to the rescue of those that were abducted.

According to Uzaan, “The Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia condemns in strong terms the recent horrific attacks on different communities in Gwer-West Local Government Area of Benue State, by men suspected to be armed herders where a number of persons were brutally killed and scores of others kidnapped.

Alia wonders why such grossly offensive attacks continue on Benue communities despite the relentless efforts of government to arrest the ugly situation.”

The Governor extended his deep condolences to those whose relatives were killed in the attacks, calling on security agencies to expedite their search and ensure safe release of those abducted.

He assured Benue State people that his government, in collaboration with security chiefs and traditional rulers is committed to concerted action to ending insecurity in the state.
