Lead British International School: FG investigates bullying in schools

The Federal Ministry of Education has set up a seven-member committee to investigate an alarming viral video on bullying incident at the Lead British International School in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

A statement by the Director Press, Folasade Boriowo says the Minister of State for Education, Yusuf Sununu, while setting up the committee, emphasised government’s steadfast stance against any form of harassment or intimidation within educational institutions.

The Minister expressed deep concern over the viral video and took decisive action while urging the committee to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the documented incidents.

According to the statement, the committee’s mandate is to investigate the events as depicted in the videos and come up with expanded investigation to other schools, using Lead British International School as a case study, to address broader social vices.

The Minister used the statement to underscore the importance of establishing stronger bonds between school authorities and students to facilitate immediate responses to similar incidents in the future, emphasising the critical role of communication in resolving such issues.

He assured the Nigerian populace of government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of the rights of all students.

Representatives from Lead British International School, led by the Head of School, , Abraham Ogunkanmbi, assured the Ministry that appropriate measures had been taken in response to the incidents, including disciplinary actions in accordance with school policies.

Meanwhile, Lead British International School Abuja, which has been in the eye of the storm over viral video of bullying involving some of its students, has been shutdown for three days.

The shutdown order was issued on Tuesday by the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye.
