Hypadec to the rescue of flood-ravaged communities in Kwara

Residents of flood-ravaged communities on the bank of River Niger can now heave a sigh of relief as Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPADEC), vows to tackle their welfare issues.

The HYPADEC team which recently visited affected communities in Kwara engaged with traditional rulers who include the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, to have firsthand information about the extent of damage and rehabilitation required for the affected communities.

The Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPADEC) which was established in 2010 is among other things charged with the responsibilities of managing ecological menace, operation of dams and related matters.

In furtherance of its statutory responsibilities, the Commission visited Kwara State to interaction with leaders and residents of affected flood ravaged areas.

Reacting to the requests of the affected communities, Chairman Governing Council of HYPADEC, Joseph Terfa Ityaf and Managing director, Abubakar Sadiq said they will ensure equitable distribution of projects and its execution across the affected communities; adding that one of the key functions of the Commission is to tackle ecological menace being experienced by the people.

Residents of the affected communities earnestly await the fulfilment of the promises made to improve the quality of their lives.
