Ebonyi State Government has attributed the violent attack on the people of Umuogudu Akpu -Ngbo community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the State in the early hours of Monday to the age-long crisis between the community and their Agila neighbours of Benue State.

This was made known by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of the state, Monday Uzor, following a preliminary investigation into the cause of the attack.

The attack is coming barely two weeks after over 20 persons were gruesomely murdered by suspected herdsmen in some communities of the Ishielu Council Area of Ebonyi State.

The government’s statement makes it clear that the latest attack was not carried out by Fulani herdsmen as being speculated in different quarters, noting that the leadership of the group has denied involvement.

The statement further said that the state government has already directed the military and police to move into the community to repel any further attack and restore peace.

Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Garba Aliyu, who confirmed the attack to ait.live, however, said he was yet to be briefed by his subordinates.

“We are yet to get any report from there. I have not been around and so, am waiting,” Aliyu said.
