Obaseki Announces N70,000 New Minimum Wage For Edo Workers

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has announced a new minimum wage of seventy thousand naira for workers under the state employment effective May 1, 2024.

The Governor made this announcement at the inauguration ceremony of the Adams Oshiomhole Labour House and establishment of Edo Labour Lecture series in Benin City.

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero in the company of his counterpart from the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, Festus Osifo commissions the newly completed Labour house in Benin City which is named by Governor Godwin Obaseki after his predecessor and former President of the NLC, Adams Aliu Oshiomhole.

This sets the ball rolling for Governor Obaseki to take his guests on a tour of the building and its facilities.

Chairman of the Edo State Chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress, Odion Olaye and Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa officially welcome the people.

Joe Ajaero who makes the inaugural presentation of the Edo Labour lecture series titled leveraging the legacies of Pa. Michael Imoudu as a way of fostering harmonious and productive industrial relations, Festus Osifo and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeruika Onyejeocha who was represented by the Director General of Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies, Comrade Issa Aremu commended the far reaching reforms of the Governor Obaseki led administration.

The Governor takes to the podium to appreciate the labour movement for assisting his administration achieve its goals in human capacity, digital and infrastructure development.
Obaseki calls for a symbiotic relationship between government and labour even as he announces a new minimum wage for workers in the state.

The event came to a close with the handing out of the labour of our heroes awards to deserving labour leaders of Edo extraction including Adams Oshiomhole represented by Issa Aremu and a posthumous presentation to Pa Michael Imoudu for the giant strides in the promotion of workers’ welfare in his lifetime.
