The Niger State government has set up a sixteen-man-committee to fight the menace of rising use of illicit and hard substances in the state.

Governor Abubakar Bello inaugurated the committee in Minna, the Niger State capital with Deputy Governor Ahmad Ketso as Chairman of
the Committee.

The setting up of the committee is not unconnected with the recent uprising caused by youths in different parts of Minna, which resulted in the loss of lives and properties.

The committee is to carry out interim operations for six months specifically in Minna.

The Police, Directorate of State Service, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, as well as the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency are represented in the Committee.

The Committee vowed it will leave no stone unturned in the fight against illicit drugs and substance consumption.

The Committee also promised to partner with youth groups and associations at different levels as well as traditional and religious leaders in tackling the task ahead of it.
