The Bayelsa State government says it will continue with its war against commercial motorcyclists, trekking herders, and scrap scavengers with a strict warning that offenders will be punished.

The resolution was reached at this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

The law banning open grazing in Bayelsa State was signed on March 10, 2021, and comprises a ban of indiscriminate livestock grazing and possession of firearms by herders.

Briefing reporters after the Executive Council meeting, Information Commissioner, Ayuba Duba, said the window of grace given by the government has expired and violators of the law will be prosecuted.

Other resolutions reached to include a warning against motorcycle operators and a ban on scrap scavengers.

Residents were advised to be watchful and promptly report suspicious movements to the appropriate authorities.
