Nasarawa State renews commitment to boost agriculture

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to give priority attention to the agricultural sector and sustain its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), job creation, and food security.

The Governor stated this at the Flag off of fertilizer sales and other farm inputs for the 2021 farming and rainy season in Akwanga Local Government Area of the State.

Nasarawa State is endowed with fertile land and good climatic condition suitable for the cultivation of crops.

Agriculture also currently provides about 80% employment for the State.

Sule noted said despite the Covid-19 pandemic, farmers-herders clashes, and climate change, the State remains committed to supporting farmers to further boost food production.

Sule said the distribution and sales of the 1,020 metric tons of fertilizer and other farm inputs for the rainy season farming is a boost.

He noted that the fertilizer will be sold at a subsidized price of 5000 naira per bag.

The Governor, however, warned that those handling the fertilizer sales will be held responsible for any complications with the distribution within their domains.

Chairman House Committee on Agriculture , Abdullahi Adamu, emphasized the need to give modern training techniques to farmers for better output.

This was as farmers in the state promised to make judicious use of the inputs to increase their yields and revenue for the State.
