Okowa

Delta state Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has expressed disappointment at the attitude of planning for expenditure without letting it reflects on the actual population of the nation.

Okowa made this observation when he received the 56th president of the institute of chartered accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Dame Onome Adewuyi at the government house in Asaba.

He  said it was high time Nigeria got it right.

Governor Okowa regretted that Nigerian economy is not expanding as it should pointing out that  while the economy is growing at a very low rate, it is challenged by population that is growing at a very high rate.

He challenged professional bodies charged with national planning and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to explore new methods of national planning to develop the nation’s economy.

Gov. Okowa argued that to get it right, there has to be a harmony between recurrent and capital expenditure because if all the monies spent on recurrent without having a reasonable amount for capital expenditure, the states and the nation are doomed.

Dame Adewuyi told his host that ICAN had concluded arrangements to establish a university that will support stakeholders in the educational value-chain aimed at bridging the gap in tertiary education in the country.

Dame who stated that capacity building is the primary mandate of ICAN lauded Gov. Okowa for his administration’s massive investment and educational transformation, including the recent upgrade of three existing higher institutions into universities.
