National Patron of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, Senator Walid Jibril has called on the Federal Government to stop the entry of cattle to Nigeria from ECOWAS countries, by calling for an amendment to Article 3 of the ECOWAS Protocol which refers to free movement of cattle and other livestock without any special undertaking.
Senator Walid who made the call at a news conference in Kaduna, North-West Nigeria said the traditional open grazing method is now outdated.
He said with advancement in technology and increase in population even the old methods of settling disputes between farmers and herders are outdated.
Senator Walid who commended the Southern Governors for taking a bold step in condemning open grazing in their region noted that the 21st-century practice of cattle rearing may never accommodate the traditional open grazing.
