The Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has called for the arrest and prosecution of vandals of national infrastructure especially rail materials.

The Minister said those who patronize the vandals should also be arrested and prosecuted.

Amaechi made the call in Ibadan, Oyo state, during an inspection tour of the Lagos-Ibadan rail project.

The Minister of Transportation and officials of the ministry had returned for an assessment of works on the Lagos Ibadan standard gauge rail line.

Several factors including impacts of the coronavirus and remodeling of the project have at various times affected timelines set for its completion.

The minister expressed disappointment at the sabotage of the government’s efforts especially by citizens who should have been beneficiaries of the infrastructure.

Though works at the train stations are nearing completion, the inspection team says it will return for another assessment, to ensure compliance with standards before its commissioning.
