The Ebonyi state Government says it will soon enact a law to checkmate the menace of fake news in the state.
Governor Dave Umahi disclosed this when he played host to the Deputy Inspector General of Police incharge of South East Geopolitical zone, DIG Joseph Egbunike, who was in Abakakili on a working visit.
The Governor insists that the greatest attack on Nigeria today is the unfettered circulation of fake news especially via the social media.
He wants the police and other relevant security agencies to enforce the existing social media laws to save the country from imminent collapse.

Governor Umahi while reiterating his support for the Operation Restore Peace, a police initiative for the south east zone, expresses the hope that the current security challenges facing the area and the country at large is redeemable but with a concerted efforts of all.
The Anambra State born DIG told the governor that his mission is to supervise the activities of the operation restore peace in the state
DIG Egbunike’s visit to Ebonyi state, is coming less than two weeks, after the Assistant Inspector General of Police , zone 9, incharge of Imo, Abia and Ebonyi states, AIG Ene Okon, also visited the state for a similar mission.
