At least, two policemen have been reportedly killed by unknown gunmen in separate attacks in Enugu city, South East Nigeria on Monday as residents observed the “sit-at-home” ordered by the leader of the proscribed self determination group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

There is no Police confirmation yet of the incidents.

One of the victims, a yet to be identified Policeman suspected to be the driver of a police patrol van was said to have been attacked and killed around the old Artisan Market area on the ever busy Ogui road in the city centre.

The police van he was driving was equally vandalised after he allegedly ran into a squad of suspected IPOB militia, while his body lay on the lonely road before it was evacuated by colleagues.

The other operative, identified as Inspector Eze Sunday was also said to have been murdered at about 9 o’clock, Monday morning by masked gunmen along the Mgbemena road, on the Coal camp area of Enugu metropolis.

Till in the evening, most parts of the Enugu city visited by ait.live crew like Abakpa, Ogui road, New heaven, Independence Layout and others, which used to be key areas of government and of commercial activities especially on Mondays, remained shut.

Markets and shops were under lock and key while some roads were blocked to all forms of movements by some stern looking youths who claimed to be enforcing the sit-at-home order.

The State Police command is yet to confirm the alleged killings of its personnel.
