The Kano Civil Society Forum has called for the full autonomy of the local government and the judiciary ahead of the Zonal Northwest public hearing on the amendment of the 1999 Constitution.

The President of the forum, Ibrahim Waiya, said they are set to present their agitation and opinion at the public hearing.

Over a hundred civil society groups in Kano gathered to discuss the way forward in a bid to have one voice as they prepare for the public hearing.

Making a case for local autonomy, the forum president, Ibrahim Waiya, wants the local government chairman to serve for four years, just like the president and state governors.

Waiya and other stakeholders also called for the autonomy of the judiciary, as this is the only way to end the on-going strike by the judiciary.

The forum also wants the economic and financial crime commission, EFCC, to be adequately empowered, in a bid to stop corruption.
