U.S. facilitates $28m scholarship programme for Nigerian students – Envoy

The American government says it has motivated a lot of Nigerian students to study in the US by facilitating a $28 million scholarship in American institutions in the past year.

U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, gave the hint during the commemoration of the Student Visa Day organized by the U.S Mission in Abuja to celebrate Nigerian students studying in the U.S.

The United States Ambassador explained that the scholarship process was facilitated by the Education U.S.A programme of the Embassy which is keen on enabling Nigerian students pursue their academic career and a future in the U.S.

She added that the U.S. is proud to give priority to scholars from Nigeria in the country’s consular process because of the value their success holds for the country’s future.

The envoy also noted that beyond studying in the U.S, the programme provides the opportunity for Nigerian students to meet with U.S citizens and other nationals which will help in strengthening bilateral ties.

The Adviser of Education U.S. programme, Malate Atajiri, Said the programme seeks to identify and Support high achieving low income students.
Some of the beneficiaries of the programme appreciated the United States for the opportunity

This year, the opportunity funds programme in Abuja supported 50 students to secure 4 million dollars in scholarship at some of the most competitive colleges and institutions in North America.
