AIT-IMAGES - STF inaugurates 17-member peace committee for Bassa LGA of Plateau State

Special Task Force deployed to maintain peace in Plateau, parts of Bauchi and Southern Kaduna, Operation Safe Haven has warned crisis merchants and communities harbouring criminals to desist forthwith or be dealt with.

The Commander, Major-General Abdulsalam Abubakar, made this known during the inauguration of a 17-member committee to implement some resolutions to address the re-emerging crisis in Irigwe land in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Irigwe land has witnessed the wanton destruction of lives and property, but several kinetic and non-kinetic interventions by the Special Task Force brought relative peace to the area. However, recent developments have threatened to reverse these gains and to nip this ugly trend in the bud, a 17-member peace committee with representatives from the Irigwe and Fulani communities has been set up.

Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Major-General Abdulsalam Abubakar said the outfit will not fold its hands and watch crisis return to the area; hence, it will do everything within its power to prevent such.

The representative of the Plateau State Governor, while commending the Special Task Force for their tireless efforts to return peace, assured them of the State Government’s support at all times.

The Committee has among its mandate to put in place modalities to stop the destruction of farmlands, the rustling of cattle, the identification of migrant herders, and other activities that have triggered violence in the area.
