The Federal Government of Nigeria has commiserated with the Government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran over the tragic helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan Province that led to the death of President Ebrahim Raisi and some other top government officials including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Sunday 19th May, 2024.
Nigeria is deeply saddened by the tragic incident, which represents a huge loss not only to the Iranian people but to the world at large.

According to a statement by the Spokesperson Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Eche Abu-Obe
Nigeria stands in solidarity with Iran in these trying times and extends heartfelt condolences to the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the families of the departed and the people of Iran.
The statement added that the federal government prays that the souls of the departed rest in peace.
