PDP seeks review of Electoral Act Amendment

The spokesperson of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, has thrown his weight behind the southern governors on their stance on the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.

Speaking on AIT’s breakfast programme, Kakaaki on Wednesday, Ologbondiyan said that, “If elections are free, fair, and credible, we can be sure that Nigerians will truly elect leaders that will serve their purposes, but if elections are not free, free and the parameters that guarantee free and fair elections are not there, then, we can as well have the situation we have now in Nigeria.”

The mouthpiece of the opposition party, however, hinted that the PDP is working amorously with the leadership and the members of the PDP and other opposition parties in the National Assembly.

Answering a question on how important the E-transmission of results is, he said, “Prior to the conduct of the Ondo and Edo elections, Nigerians were complaining about the process of transmission of results; before you move results from the polling units to the ward, changes are made; it does not reflect the wishes of the people, from the ward to the local government, the state, and national. And a lot of things happen that are completely wrong and variant with the demand of the electoral process in collation of results.

“When when it got to the Edo election, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in its wisdom, introduced E-transmission which ensures that results will move electronically from the point of voting to the point of collation. So, all processes of manipulations of changing results, thuggery, violence, seizing electoral materials seized.”
