9 million pupils benefit daily from National Homegrown School Feeding Programme

The federal government says more than 9 million pupils currently benefit daily from the ongoing National Homegrown School Feeding Programme of the government nationwide.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiyah Umar Farouq disclosed this during the flag off of the enumeration and enrolment of beneficiaries of the School feeding Programme in Osogbo, Osun state.

The School Feeding Programme a component of National Social Investment Programme N-SIP, is a federal government Initiative designed to improve school enrolment and food security for pupils among others.

Represented by Executive director, finance and administration in the ministry, Mathew Dada, the Minister said that the enumeration is in recognition of the need to bring more Nigerians under the social network and to scale up its beneficiaries as directed by president Muhammad Buhari.

She spoke on the mandate to add 5 million more beneficiaries by the year 2023

The state Governor, Gboyega Oyetola and the state Local person of N-SIP, Lukman Bello, then appealed to the federal government to revisit the policy of No Payment, No feeding of primary school pupils.

The event featured presentation of Engagement letters and monitoring devices to trained lndependent monitors of N-SIP, to enable the ministry improve on the gray areas towards delivering on its mandate.
