Former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida has urged the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, to help rewrite the narrative of providing a better society for the country.
Babangida said this when the President of NIPR, Ike Neliaku led its governing council on a courtesy visit to his uphill mansion in Minna, the Niger State Capital as part of the activities marking the institute’s Diamond anniversary.
The month-long Diamond Anniversary activities kick-started with a walk for economic transformation beginning from the BOMAS roundabout to the government house where Governor Umar Bago represented by the Head of Service, Abubakar Salisu, received them.
He assured of government’s commitment to a safe environment through the ongoing one million tree planting campaign in the state to complement the NIPR drive to revive the nation’s environment by planting 2,200 trees across the country with 60 in each state including the FCT.
The Diamond Anniversary train later moved to the uphill mansion of the former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida who birthed the institute 60 years ago where he applauded their commitment and progress thus far.
The National President of the institute, Ike Neliaku disclosed that the NIPR has grown over the years and the dynamics have changed as Public Relations is now a leadership function.
This he says has increased the values of PR for strategic effective communication.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation , Muhammad Idris represented by the Director General, Voice Of Nigeria, VON, Jubrin Ndace assured of a sustainable partnership with the NIPR in achieving the national value chain policy of the federal government.
The team had earlier paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Minna, Umar-Farouk Bahago to seek his royal blessings where he appreciated NIPR for their recognition of the traditional institutions in the country, calling for commitment, dedication and focus in attaining their vision.
The theme for the NIPR’s Diamond anniversary celebration is: ‘Safeguarding the Environment of Nigeria’.
