The Federal Government has described as false and misleading an alleged attempt by the Russian government to recruit Nigerians and other nationals of African descent studying in the country into its war force against the Ukrainians in exchange for visa renewals.
In a statement by spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Eche Abu-Obe in Abuja disclosed that the news articles were published by several Nigerian media outlets on Monday, 10th June, 2024.
The statement reads in part: “The Ministry wishes to inform that the Nigerian Embassy in Moscow is in close communication with the Executives of the Nigerian Students Association in Moscow, Russia and there has not been any reported case of conscription of Nigerian students nor indeed of other African students to fight in the aforementioned war.
