Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Lady Valerie Fubara, has presented cheques worth Ten million Naira to twenty women farmers who are the first batch of beneficiaries of the Renewed Hope Initiative Women Agricultural Support Programme, a pet project of the wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu.
Presenting the cheques at a ceremony held at the Government House, Port Harcourt, Lady Fubara urged the beneficiaries to make best use of the support given to them, saying that they owe it as a sacred duty to ensure that the investments lead to increased and improved harvests from their farms in the next few months.
80 more beneficiaries are expected to be accommodated in subsequent phases of the programme, which seeks to support women farmers with the aim of increasing food production and ending hunger and poverty.
Lady Valerie Fubara wants the lucky beneficiaries to make the best use of the once in a life time opportunity given to them.
She said that her husband’s administration has commenced the review of agricultural policies to reduce the challenges experienced in the sector, adding that the Rivers State Government is now more than ever committed to reviving state-owned agricultural intervention schemes in partnership with private investors.
Other programmes embarked upon in Rivers State under the Renewed Hope Initiative include, support for the elderly, distribution of books and other learning materials to children in public primary and secondary schools and other measures of support to ease the burden of indigent families.
