The University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Teaching Hospital, Enugu, has been granted approval for Nursing internship programme.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, NMCN, approved the internship programme
after nearly two decades of wait.
The approval was announced by the Registrar of the Council, Dr. Faruk Abubakar, during a courtesy visit to Governor Peter Mbah at the Government House, Enugu, where he led the Council’s accreditation team.
This approval marks the end of a nearly two-decade wait for the Department of Nursing at the ESUT Teaching Hospital.
Dr. Abubakar also disclosed the Council’s approval for indexing Nursing students at the Colleges of Nursing, including the former School of Nursing in Awgu, recently upgraded to a College of Nursing, attributing these advancements to Governor Mbah’s healthcare policies.
Governor Mbah, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, expressed delight with the approvals but regretted the 19-year stagnation of the State’s nursing institutions.
He noted that the current administration has made significant investments in the health and nursing sectors to address these issues..
