The Nigerian Customs Service, Federal Operation Unit zone “C” Owerri has made a seizure of illicit drugs and other contraband items with total value of over Seven Hundred and Forty-Five Million naira between April 19th to June 12th 2024.

The Comptroller, Federal Operation Unit Zone C, Mike Ugbagu in his maiden press briefing said the feat was achieved due to the leadership style of the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi and the entire Management Team of the Nigerian Customs Service and commended them over their efforts, commitment, dedication, and hard work.

Upon his assumption in office as the Comptroller Federal Operation Unit FOU zone ‘C’ Owerri on the 19th of April, 2024, Mike Ugbagu hit the ground running with remarkable achievements already recorded. With the new operational modalities based on approved Standard Operating Procedures that were deployed, the command was able live up to its responsibility by intercepting various contraband goods and quantities of illicit drugs.

During the press briefing, Mike Ugbadu said the Command will not relent its anti-smuggling operations within his Area of coverage.

Among the seizures made were cartons of various unregistered and controlled medicaments, a Fourty Feet Container of second hand clothes and second hand tires.

Ugbadu says the fight against smuggling can only be won if all hands were on the deck.

He warned economic saboteurs who will want to use the festive period of the Sallah Celebrations for nefarious acts to desist from such illegal businesses as the customs unit has devised tactical strategies that will trace out such illegalities and deal with them decisively according to the law.
