The National Economic Management team of the President Bola Tinubu administration has been told to as a matter of urgency develop and put in place a realistic and people oriented agricultural and manufacturing policies that will douse the economic tension created by the current hardship in the country.
The call come from one of Nigeria’s opposition political party, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), urging the government to make agriculture an economically profitable venture by subsidizing the value chain.
The National Chairman of the Party, Falalu Bello in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Mohammed Ishaq, called on the national economic team to consider a massive reduction in the cost of governance and wastes at centre.
According to the statement, Nigeria import substitution policy in the 70’s was doing very well before IMF/World Bank reduced the nation to a dumping ground and import dependent economy.
The PRP urged the government to wake up, insisting that the nation must work on the alternatives to the Bretton Wood Institutions anti-people and anti-development policies.
“We have watched with utter dismay the inclination of the government of President Bola Tinubu towards the continuous use of Bretton Woods Institutions’ economic policy prescriptions despite their monumental failures in the past. The state of affairs of our nation, particularly the challenges of the teaming masses, is avoidable”, the statement reads.
