Nigerian Army Acquires First Operational Aircrafts

The Nigerian Army Aviation has taken delivery of its first batch of helicopters, Bell UH-1 on Thursday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The Chief of Army Staff, Liutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja who launched the Aircrafts into operations upon arrival in Nigeria, noted that the journey to realizing the dream of Army Aviation has come to reality, while giving credit to those who conceptualize the journey.

He added that the aviation wing of the Nigerian Army started when the former Chief Of Army Staff, Lieitenant General Kenneth Minimah (retired), and 10 years later, the service has taken delivery of the first set of platforms.

General Lagbaja who added that the Army is new to this business, and thanked sister services for the encouragement and support, hoping that it will be a pleasant experience that will enhance operational successes

The Coordinator Nigerian Army Aviation, Brigadier, Musa Alkali stated that the Nigerian Army Vanguard Air platforms, marks a new chapter in the operational readiness and ability to respond swiftly and effectively to diverse security challenges, as they are not just an addition to the fleet, but a leap forward in the quest for excellence and efficiency towards getting Army Aviation, operational.

According to him, it will also bolster the Army’s reconnaissance, surveillance, and Air mobility capabilities, thereby enhancing overall operational effectiveness.
