Aviation Minister Keyamo Flags-off Construction Of Gusau International Airport Project

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has flagged off the Construction of Zamfara State International Airport in Gusau, the State capital with the promise to support the State in the actualization of the project within the thirty-two-month completion period.

Keyamo said the project would positively impact the economic development of Zamfara through job creation for the teeming unemployed youth.

The Minister described the International Airport project as critical to the rejuvenation of the economic developments, not only of Zamfara State but also the Northwest zone and pledged his ministry support to enable the State to actualize the project and complete it within record time.

He commended the Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal for initiating the International Airport Project, noting that it is for Nigeria to drive the country’s development.

On the declaration of Zamfara State as a non-flight zone, the Minister said, the Federal government is considering lifting the ban.

Governor Dauda Lawal said that the immediate past administration had earmarked N13.3 billion for the construction of the Airport Terminal building, but N6.3 billion was expended, yet nothing to show for it.

He told Newsmen that his administration is committed to realising the project as the funds are available for the airport project which will bring about the much-desired development for the people of Zamfara State.

The International Airport Project is expected to cost N62.8 billion showcasing the state-of-the-art facilities which include, a 3.4 Kilometers Primary runway suitable for commercial Aircrafts, the installation of runway lines, a modern terminal building with passenger facilities such as work class check-in counters, a waiting area, customs and Immigration Services building, an Aircraft control tower, maintenance hanger, Fire and Rescue Station, access roads among others.
