The Federal Government has marked the 2024 National Environmental Sanitation Day with clean up exercise at Piwoyi community, a suburb in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Organised by the Federal Ministry of Environment and her partners, the residents were sensitised on proper environmental sanitation and hygiene practices in the face of Cholera outbreak in the country.

The Esu of Piwoyi, Tanko Lazarus led members of his community in the clean up exercise. He expressed joy over the choice of Piwoyi by the Federal Government and her partners for even as he pledged to ensure that the community is devoid of harm arising from poor environmental hygiene.

While presenting some sanitary materials to the community, Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal harped on the need to make environmental sanitation a way of life especially in the face of Cholera outbreak in the country.
The 28th of June every year was declared National Environmental Sanitation Day by the Federal Government in 2005, as a day set aside to create awareness on the essence of proper hygiene practices for the prevention of communicable diseases.

The theme for this year’s commemoration is “Environmental sanitation in the era of climate change, Go greener, Stay clean; Climate change is real”.
