The body of late Hajiya Maryam Albishir, mother-in-law to Vice President Kashim Shettima, was laid to rest on Monday evening in Kano, after a funeral prayer at her family residence.
The late Maryam Albishir, aged 69, was the mother of Nana Shettima, wife of Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The Vice President had arrived the Aminu Kano International Airport Kano for his late mother in-law’s burial with his entourage from Abuja, and was received by the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf alongside top State government officials at the event.
Imam Nuhu Yankaba led the solemn funeral prayer for the peaceful and perpetual repose of late Maryam Albishir which attended by a large crowd of mourners at her family compound in Bompai.

Also present at the funeral prayer were; the Acting Governor of Borno State, Umar Usman; Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari; and Minister of State for Steel Development, Uba Ahmadu.
Other dignitaries in attendance included National Assembly members; former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff; several former deputy governors of Borno State, political associates of the Vice President and family members of the deceased.
Earlier, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf in a condolence message to the Vice President, enjoined him and the family of his late mother in-law to be comforted by the good life lived by their departed loved one, which he describes as exemplary.
The body of late Hajiya Maryam Abubakar Albishir was finally interred at the Dandolo cemetery amidst continuous prayers for the peaceful repose of her soul as Kano metropolis witnessed the presence of tight security in and around the area where the late Maryam lived before her death.
