About One million children under the age of five are to benefit from a free vitamin A supplement and deworming programme as part of efforts by the Oyo State government to optimise maternal and child care in the first round of its five-day Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week.

Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Primary HealthCare Board, Muideen Olatunji, stated this at the flag-off of a 5-day Optimised Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week at Oranyan Primary Healthcare Centre in Ibadan.

In a bid to address and reduce maternal and child mortality to zero level, the Oyo State government is carrying out regular exercises to deliver an integrated cost effective package of preventive services to improve mothers’ and children’s health and survival.

According to the State government, the prevalence of childhood malnutrition has dropped from 24.4 percent to 23.0 percent.

Mothers and caregivers are urged to take their children that are 5 years and below to the nearest health facility for them to access these interventions.
