Following reports in social media and some newspapers that there was an explosion at the Zungeru Power Plant/Dam in Niger State, the police authorities and some residents have debunked the story.
Police spokesman, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, confirmed to ait.com that the story is fake as no such incident occurred.

According to him, “We wish to respond that there is no report of any kind of explosion at Zungeru Dam, as reported by some online media, and we urge members of the public to kindly disregard them.”

Calls also put to some residents in Zungeru town, confirmed that no such news about the explosion was heard, either at the dam site or power.

Another staff member of the Zungeru Power Plant who pleaded anonymity said, “As I speak with you right now, I am at the plant, and nothing of such happened. I saw it on social media too, and I was shocked.”
The source also added that he called a lecturer with the Zungeru Polytechnic to know whether there was any news about an explosion in his school or anywhere in town, since he is at the plant, the lecturer confirmed that nothing of the sort happened.
