Nigeria’s Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, Ajuri Ngelale, has advocated for Africa’s green economic interests . Ajuri made the case during high-level talks at the Global Energy Transition Congress in Milan, Italy.

The Special Envoy on his X handle on Tuesday said “Gradually, we are seeing a paradigm shift with respect to how commercial risk and value are evaluated in the wake of an increasing frequency of climate disasters.”

Adding that “The insurance industry, especially in developed markets, is just one sector seeing major changes – and a future in which companies will be assessed according to verifiable measurement of climate impact or mitigation is evolving into reality across sectors.”

Ajuri on the sidelines of the Global Energy Transition Congress in Milan, Italy, joined a Leadership Roundtable of cabinet-level officials and captains of industry from across the globe as they sought to co-create solutions on how to catalyze large-scale private sector-led investments, in renewable energy and carbon capture technology projects through the active creation of coordinated pools of de-risking finance.

The aim is to do it in a way that provides political risk guarantees to cover specific vulnerabilites found in emerging markets that are prone to dynamic and unique manifestations of climate change.

Earlier, the Nigerian Presidential Special Envoy used the exclusive platform over dinner to emphasise the importance of steering the global energy transition towards creating green economic opportunities for Nigerians and Africans at large.

He said “I was humbled and honoured by the opportunity to exchange views over dinner with former U.S. Special Presidential Envoy on Climate, H.E. John Kerry, former UK Prime Minister, H.E. Tony Blair, ex-CNN Global Emerging Markets Editor, John Defterios, and other high-level dignitaries at the Global Energy Transition Congress in Milan, Italy.”
