The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) has attributed the fuel queues in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and some parts of the country to logistics challenges and flooding caused by recent thunderstorms.

According to a statement issued by Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd Olufemi Soneye on Monday the thunderstorms disrupted the ship-to-ship transfer of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) between Mother Vessels and Daughter Vessels, affecting berthing at jetties, truck load-outs, and transportation of products to filling stations.

The NNPC explained that the flammability of petroleum products and compliance with Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) regulations made it impossible to load petrol during rainstorms and lightning.

The flooding of truck routes has also constrained the movement of PMS from coastal corridors to Abuja, exacerbating the situation.

However, NNPC says it is working with stakeholders to resolve the logistics challenges and restore seamless supply of petrol to affected areas.

“Loading has commenced in areas where the challenges have subsided, and the corporation hopes for improved situations in the coming days”

The NNPC urged motorists to avoid panic buying and hoarding of petroleum products, assuring that normalcy will be restored soon.
