Following controversy surrounding the $150 billion agreement signed between the Nigerian Government and the European Union, the House of Representatives has asked for the suspension of implementation of the deal.

This followed a motion by the Deputy Minority Leader, Aliyu Madaki, and 88 others, calling the attention of the House to some alleged offensive clauses in the pact, commonly known as Samoa Agreement.

The lawmakers who were visibly displeased with the agreement noted that the Federal Government should under no circumstances agree to such a deal because of some alleged questionable clauses captured in the agreement.

Efforts by the House Leader, Julius Ihonvbere to counter the motion and also update his colleagues on the position of the Minister who denied the allegations earlier in the week proved abortive as the lawmakers disagreed.

House Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda in his contribution further revealed that the executive acted in violation of the law by not seeking the nod of the lawmakers on the agreement.

The Samoa Agreement, which was signed by the Nigerian Government on the 28th of June, has sparked social, religious and moral criticisms, with Nigerians kicking against the deal.
