Nigeria’s House of Representatives has moved to investigate the resurgence of queues in most cities of the country, and the importation of substandard petroleum products into the country.
The motion followed a matter of urgent importance, on the urgent need to carry out a legislative forensic investigation into the challenges affecting the downstream and midstream petroleum sectors in Nigeria and other related matters with a view to finding a lasting solution to all the challenges.
The House is also to investigate the alleged indiscriminate issuance of licenses for the importation of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, as well as the failure of regulators.
The lawmakers are unhappy that despite assurances by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, (NNPCL), and petroleum marketers, the issue of fuel scarcity continues to resurface.
