Enugu State Government, Southeast Nigeria has embarked on some reforms in its education sector, aiming to establish eight state-of-the-art Science, Technical, and Vocational Schools across the eight Federal Constituencies in the State.

These institutions will cater for students in Senior Secondary 1 to 3 under the Science, Technical and Vocational Schools Management Board

Preparations are already underway, at the site of the Government Technical College (GTC) Enugu, as old structures are being cleared to make way for a new Science, Technical and Vocational school.

Established in 1948, GTC Enugu, once a prestigious post primary institution, has seen its facilities deteriorate over the years.

Enugu State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ndubueze Mbah, reveals that the government’s decision to locate one of the model schools at the GTC premises, is to restore the institution’s former glory.

He notes that in addition to the Science, Technical and Vocational Schools, the government is also setting up one of the Enugu Smart Green Schools for Basic education level within the same vicinity.

According to the Education Commissioner, the eight schools are designed in three models.

The first model focuses on Science and Technology, the second on Building and Architecture, and the third on Industrial Agriculture.

The project is expected to be completed over the next two years.
