The Nasarawa State government has welcomed the landmark judgment of the Supreme Court granting financial autonomy to local governments describing it as a significant milestone in the evolution of Nigeria’s democracy.
The Attorney-General of Nasarawa State, Labaran Shuaibu Magaji in a statement to Journalists in Lafia, Nasarawa state noted that the state government, under the leadership of governor Abdullahi Sule has expressed its commitment to upholding the principles of democracy, transparency, and good governance at all levels of government.

He added that the Supreme Court judgment granting autonomy to local governments will empower them to make financial decisions that directly impact the lives of the people they serve.
He added that the decision reinforces the principles of federalism and strengthens the foundation of Nigeria’s democratic system.
He explained that the government has pledged to support and implement the judgment by ensuring that local governments operate independently, transparently, and accountably.
The state Attorney-General therefore called on all relevant players, including local government officials, CSOs and people in the state to support state governments make the judgment impactful.
