Impeached Egor Chairman, Eghe Ogbemudia

The Legislative arm of Egor Local Government Area of Edo State has impeached the council’s chairman, Eghe Ogbemudia, over alleged padding of the council’s supplementary budget and other allegations of corruption.

The impeachment was consequent upon a vote of no Confidence against the chairman during a session of the legislative arm of the council.

The removed chairman is yet to respond to text messages and calls from ait.live to elicit reactions for her impeachment by the councillors.

The session on Ogbemudia’s removal was chaired by the Leader of the House and Councillor representing Ward three, Godwin Uwadiae Edigin.

Shortly after a roll call of the legislative house, the Councillor representing Ward two, Stella Osagioduwa Ogida, moved a motion for a no confidence vote against the chairman over allegations of gross misconduct.

Stella Ogida claimed that they have also uncovered the padding of the council’s supplementary budget to the tune of one point seven billion naira even as she accused the Chairman of not involving the councillors in the preparation and approval of the supplementary budget.

Seconding the motion, Councillor representing Ward nine, Elliot Inneh said, they had tried to reach out to Eghe Ogbemudia to no avail.

According to him, they had a budget proposal amounting to six point zero five four billion naira that was passed through the house, only to discover that the Chairman in connivance with a former leader of the house, went behind their backs and padded the budget to the tune of seven point eight nine six billion naira.

Leader of the house, Godwin Edigin called for a voice vote, with majority of Councillors conceding to the motion of impeachment.

He revealed that all efforts made to get the affected chairman to respond to the allegations proved abortive.
