The Benue State Government has directed Primary Healthcare Centres, PHCs, in 23 LGAs to take delivery of new born babies free of charge.
Executive Secretary of the Benue State Primary Health Care Board, BSPHCB, Grace Wende who made this known in Makurdi also announced the distribution of free delivery kits called Mama Kits to expectant mothers.
Wende was speaking at the one day review meeting of health stakeholders and development partners at the local government level in Makurdi, the State capital. She gave an overview of the engagement which is to restrategise on programmes and interventions to improve maternal and child health services in the various local councils.
Declaring the meeting open, Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Yanmar Ortese emphasised the importance of the review which will bring about improvement in the health sector.
Manager of Impact Project, Ene Ochai says the meeting is geared towards an in-depth analysis of activities of primary health care facilitates at the grassroot.
It is hoped that following the review, Primary Health Care Centres in the State will receive the much desired boost to sufficiently reduce maternal and child mortality.
