Troops rescue 330 victims and another Chibok girl in Sambisa forest

The Nigerian military have rescued 330 women and children from the enclaves of Boko Haram in Sambisa Forest, and handed them over to the Borno State Government.

Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation Hadin Kai, Major-General Waidi Shaibu, handed over the rescued victims through his representative, Navy Captain Mohammed Abdullahi.

The Borno State Government was represented by the Director, Social Welfare, Aishatu Shettima, who stood in for the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development. Major-General Waidi Shaibu, said out of the 330 rescued victims, 110 are women, while 220 are children.

“The survivors were rescued by troops in an Operation at Dikwa and the Bama axis and profiled as well as given medical checks and treatment while the children were given polio immunisation and malaria treatment, among others.”

In a similar development, troops of Operation Hadin Kai, have also rescued another Chibok school girl, Ihyi Abdul.
The now 27-year-old lady was rescued with two of her children, from the Bama axis, in Borno State. This brings the total number of rescued Chibok girls to 19.

Major-General Waidi Shaibu, presented the Chibok school girl before newsmen in Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
According to him, “Ihyi Abdul, 27, was rescued on June 23, 2024, along with her two children, during an offensive operation conducted by troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade within the Sambisa Forest. She was identified as number 67 on the list of abducted Chibok School Girls published by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2014.”

General Officer Commanding, GOC 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General AGL Haruna, gave further insight on the rescued Chibok school firl. “Ihyi Abdul was forcefully married to a terrorist, Abu Darda, in 2014, and he later relocated to Senegal. After Abu Darda’s neutralisation, she was married to many other terrorists, including Ba’ana, who resided in Sambisa Forest.”

He said the rescued Chibok school girl and her children, have undergone thorough medical examination and treatment, at the military medical facility. He also said that Ihyi is currently three months pregnant, and is receiving appropriate medical care.
