The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has dissociated self from August 1st planned nationwide protest, but insists, the Police must provide protection for any protester.

TUC President, Festus Osifo, at a Press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, also asked President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the feud between Dangite Refineries and the NNPCL as well as justified the acceptance of N70,000 as national minimum wage.

Though the talking point in most gatherings in Nigeria, and the country’s Media space for days is on a planned protest against hunger and bad governance, scheduled to begin on August 1st, 2024, the organised Labour, particularly the TUC says it has not been contacted by the organisers of the planned protests to join in the action.

Besides, the TUC is seeking for President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the feud between owners of Dangote Refineries and the NNPC Limited, over the contentious issues of bad fuel or not, and the non-supply or otherwise of crude oil, among other national issues.

With many displeased with the N70,000 national minimum wage agreed by organised Labour and the President, the TUC leadership justified the reasons for Labour’s agreeing the amount.

On the blockade at the National Secretariat of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, over leadership crisis, the TUC appreciated the Police for intervening swiftly to avert clashes at the office of one of its biggest affiliate unions.
