The Plateau State government in North Central Nigeria has taken proactive measures to prevent the outbreak of cholera in the State, including the launch of public awareness campaigns in local communities, after reported cases in 33 of the country’s 36 States.
This was disclosed during the flag-off event of the Statewide awareness campaign on Cholera spread in Jos, the Plateau State capital as the rainy season intensifies.
The Nigerian Center for Disease Control and Prevention had alerted the public of the increasing cases of spread of Cholera epidemic during the raining season in as many as 33 States across the country, though Plateau State havs not recorded any official case.
According to the General Manager of the Plateau State Water Services Corporation, the State government has procured bulk water treatment chemicals, amongst other steps taken to prevent the disease.
ait.live reports that the Plateau State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) is part of the ongoing public awareness campaign in which it pledged to continue to provide the right information on how to prevent as well as the proper medical procedure for the treatment of Cholera patients, to the general public.
