The Nigeria Veterinary Medical Association has called on the Kogi State Government to create a Ministry of Livestock Development to harness the potentials that abound in the sector.

The Kogi State Chairman of the association, Dr Tolu Omotugba,
made the call during a media conference on Monday in Lokoja.

The Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Veterinary Medical Association said research conducted in the state in 2023 by the association indicated clearly that there were over one million cattles in Kogi State aside other livestock.

He said the Kogi state government needed to leverage the newly created federal Ministry of Livestock Development by the Tinubu administration to replicate the Ministry in the State.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Usman Ododo over his approval and prompt implementation of the 2021 reviewed Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for the members of the association within the Kogi State Civil Service, and appealed to the Governor to give a speedy approval for the two months arrears of CONMESS to Veterinary Doctors in the State.

Tolu Omotugba advised Governor Usman Ododo to consider the appointment of a qualified Veterinary Doctor as the Commissioner of the proposed Ministry of Livestock Development
to ensure effective management
