Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa state says the government will not stand idle and watch some elements in the guise of Protesters jeopardize the policies and programmes of government in the state and by extension the country.

At a state security council meeting in government house, Yenagoa, Governor Diri, speaking to security chiefs ahead of the proposed nationwide protest fixed for August 1, warned that the security agencies will be ready to deal with the sponsors and the protesters in Bayelsa.

The proposed “End Bad Governance” protest in Nigeria is few days away.

The Governor expressed concerns that the demonstration will be hijacked by unscrupulous elements to perpetrate mayhem.

He also sent a strong warning to the factional Ijaw Youth Congress who are supporting the protest, calling on the security agents to get them arrested.

He assured the people that the state remained calm as the government will continue to work out modalities to cushion the effects of the hardships.
