The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru has again decried what he calls the neglect of most of the Federal government owned facilities, especially in the Federal Universities established in the State.
Governor Nwifuru, was speaking on Wednesday, when he received members of the Governing Council of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike-Ikwo led by its Chairman, Dr Anthony Nebo, as well as the newly appointed Pro-Chancellor of the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu, Dr. Adebayo Shittu, at the Government House, Abakaliki.
Nwifuru while responding to some of the challenges of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, told his guests that the State government will continue to do what is necessary to maintain security and comfort of the University community, but frowned at the expectations of advocates who blame State Governors for not assisting the Federal government in changing the poor infrastructure and maintenance of facilities sited in their States.
(“If you watch keenly, the assertions and submissions of many Nigerians, very reputable lawyers are making, you will realize that people don’t understand functions of States and what the State Government should be doing. We’ve embarked on so many projects of Federal government. Nobody takes cognizance of that and nobody remembers that. I’m not trying to defend anything but when the time comes, we’ll be very much available. We’ve done so much as a State and as Governors. Basically, I say Nigeria is blessed and the kind of governors we have today. For quite a long time, we’ve not had it this good.” Governor Nwifuru stated.)

Also, to the Pro-Chancellor and Governing council of the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences in Uburu, the Governor urged the new Governing Council to ensure adequate management of the University, as Ebonyi State government has stopped further provision of subvention to the University.
(“We’re being owed, we’ve not been paid for the infrastructure, federal government didn’t put one infrastructure there. So we’re being owed roughly N500 Billion we spent in building that place. But I’ve said to Federal government if you think that the amount of money we spent in building that place is too much, come and build exactly what we built there for us and hand over. We don’t want your money, we have a place, we’ll show you land you can build exactly that. All the structures in that institution, just come and build it, we’ll show you land. We spent a lot of money to reclaim that place, we’ll give you a place you will not spend one naira to reclaim”, Gov. Nwifuru explained.
