The Federal Government has inaugurated series of pivotal projects in Idoma community in Biase LGA of Cross River State, South-South Nigeria following intervention of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC and the United Nations International Fund For Agriculture, IFAD.

The newly inaugurated development projects include the 1.3-kilometre earth road, a mini bridge, and an 8-metric-ton cassava processing mill, that are expected to transform local transportation, enhance agricultural productivity, and foster economic growth in the area.

During the commissioning ceremony, the National Project Coordinator for the Federal Government’s NDDC-IFAD Assisted Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises Project, Abiodun Sanni, highlighted that the projects were aimed at enhancing local livelihoods.

He noted that the projects selected and approved by the community, were designed to support the region’s major crop which is cassava by improving farming and processing infrastructure.

State Commissioner for Agriculture and Irrigation Development, Johnson Ebokpo described the projects as a model for integrated community development. He announced plans to extend similar projects to other areas in the state to promote food security.

The State Project Coordinator, Innocent Moses, emphasised that the new projects were designed to empower the youths who represented a vital segment of the population.

On their part, the Paramount Ruler of Idoma, Steve Omori, assured that the community would diligently protect and maintain the new infrastructure while the local beneficiaries lauded the projects, noting that the cassava processing mill and improved infrastructure were already making meaningful impacts on their livelihood.

These developments mark a major step forward in supporting the Idoma community’s infrastructure and economic resilience, reinforcing the commitment of the government towards sustainable local development.
