The National Judicial Council, NJC has recommended Justice Kudirat Motonmori Kekere-Ekun for appointment as Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN.
The Council also recommended 27 candidates for appointment as Judges of States Courts and a candidate for appointment as Khadi of the Sharia Court of the FCT, Abuja to their various State Governors and President Bola Tinubu.
This is coming after the Council concluded its 106th meeting presided over by outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, held on 14th and 15th of August 2024, as contained in a statement issued by the Director, Information for the Council, Soji Oye.
The Council noted that the recommendation is imperative as Justice Ariwoola, will formally bow out of office as the Chief Justice of Nigeria on Thursday, August 22, 2024.
According to the statement, six Judges were recommended for the High Court of Kwara state, one for High Court of Kaduna, four for the High Court of Benue State. Others are two judges for the Customary Court of Appeal in Benue State, eight for the High Court of Rivers State, Six for the High Court In Ondo State and One Khadi for the Sharia Court of Appeal, FCT, Abuja.
According to the statement, all recommended candidates are expected to be sworn-in after the approval of the NJC recommendations to the President and their respective State Governors.
