The Cross River State Government has taken a step towards revitalizing its infrastructure, as Governor Bassey Otu broke construction ground of a 365-kilometer Railway line linking the Southern city of Calabar with Obudu in the Northern part of the state.

The railway project estimated to cost 350 million dollars, is a Public-Private Partnership between the State Government and a private company.

The groundbreaking ceremony, was held at the Tinapa Free Zone Resort in Calabar.

The rail line will feature main terminals in Calabar and at Obudu with sub-stations in Ugep, Ikom, and Ogoja.

Governor Otu highlighted the strategic importance of the rail line which will facilitate movement within the state and enhance trade with neighboring countries, given Cross River State’s proximity to the Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, and Sao Tome and Principe.

He also emphasized the potential economic benefits, including job creation and increased investments, that the project will bring to the state.

Stanley Orji, a representative of the Company, expressed confidence in the project’s potential to attract further investments and stimulate economic growth in Cross River State.

The Rail Line Project is expected to not only revolutionize transportation within Cross River State, but also enhance the state’s attractiveness to investors, positioning it as a hub for regional trade and economic activities.
