The Embassy of Belgium, Australian and Canadian High Commissions in Nigeria have pledged to support the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) in its efforts to promote open data policy in the extractive industry.

The pledge was made during a courtesy visit to NEITI House in Abuja, where the diplomats inspected the newly completed NEITI Data Center.

The Ambassadors of Belgium, Australia, and Canada welcomed the Data Center project as a significant milestone in the fight against corruption in the extractive industry.

The Executive Secretary of NEITI, Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, expressed gratitude for the visit and called for closer partnership between the diplomatic missions and NEITI to strengthen its international affiliation under the global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).

The NEITI Board and Civil Society Organizations also pledged their support for deepening the partnership and collaboration with diplomatic missions and international development partners to expand the scope of NEITI implementation in Nigeria.

The NEITI Data Center aims to support reforms in the extractive industries with evidence-based decisions, and the agency has called for international cooperation to address the challenges posed by the global transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources.
